3 Cake Confessions….

First Confession

At the Bridal show, I know there were Wedding Cake vendors exhibiting , at least I think they were there…. there must have been some there?!?! but I must have missed them all somehow? I am presuming they all had wonderful free taste tests and all had such a big crowd gathered round that I strolled right on past each and every single one of them.

So my first confession is that I do not have a single cake maker to recommend right now. So if you know of someone that makes stunning looking wedding cakes that taste even better please leave me a comment and pass along their details to me.

2nd Confession

So much for my new health kick – I have being walking past the display case at Juliana’s in Paradise Point for nearly a month now and salavating at the tasty looking treats always on display. Today I couldn’t hold out any longer, I had to try the yummy looking raspberry muffin. It was delish. If you are in the area you have to try Juliana’s food. The location, atmosphere and service are also top notch.  Juliana’s address is 42 the Esplanade.

The apple crumble is next on my list to try. I hope they have a big dollop of french vailla ice cream to put on top.

There is a CourierMail review here on all the eateries in Paradise Point – including a glowing reveiw of Juliana’s.

3rd and Final Confession

Call me old fashioned (that doesn’t happen very much) but check the excert below for a new wedding trend that I hope doesn’t catch on. Just doesn’t seem right to me.

Fake Cake

Those who find wedding cakes too expensive can now rent a fake one instead.

One Michigan business makes elegant, multi-tiered cakes from plastic foam with a secret spot reserved for a slice of real cake to be shared by the bride and groom. Meanwhile, guests are served slices from a real and inexpensive sheet cake.

The fake cakes by Fun Cakes are covered by gum paste and fondant, a frosting-like confection made from sugar and water often used in cakes and pastries.”The only difference is the inside. Nobody can tell,” said Kimberly Aya, whose 3-month-old company also bakes real cakes.

After a bride and groom take the traditional first slice of their real wedding cake, it often is wheeled away from guests, out of sight, to be cut up and served. That is when Fun Cakes makes the swap.

Renting fake cakes is fairly new. Susan Lobsinger, who opened Rent the Cake of Your Dreams in New York state last year, said she knows of only one other cake-rental business – and it is in Canada.

Save or Splurge?

Here is an excert from a great article I came accross on CNN Living  It has plenty of great tips on which areas of your wedding you should consider saving on and splurging on. But don’t take my word on it, be sure to click on the CNN logo and follow the link to read the rest of the article.

I of course may be a little biast in my reccomendation because as you will read below it states that photography is one area a bride rarely ever regrets the amount she spent on her photography.

Splurge on photos

A wedding is only one day, but the photos last forever. Even on a budget, brides rarely lament the amount spent on a quality photographer.

“We really love our wedding photos and still get compliments on them to this day. She was worth the extra cash we spent,” Cochran says.

Photos were so important to Kalkay, she spent $15,000 to bring in photographers who regularly shoot celebrity weddings.

If you’re cutting corners, however, you may be able to find a skilled student photographer who’s eager to earn extra cash and build a portfolio. And you can forgo a videographer altogether.

“It’s very passe compared to photography,” says Tutera.

Vintage Cars

So at the bridal show there were many stunning dresses and dozens of beautiful floral arrangements, but for me, the real show stopper were two gorgous vintage cars parked in the corner of the hall.  If you are wanting your wedding to have a timeless elegant feel, you couldn’t go wrong by arriving in style coutesy of Gold Coast Luxury Vintage Car Hire.

Inside and out these cars have been lovingly restored and are just stunning, from the beautiful leather on the inside to the glinting highly polished chrome on the exterior..

These vehicles will also make a wonderful backdrop for your photographs.  I can’t wait till one of my brides has these at her wedding. (hint hint)

Say “I do” to a healthier, fitter you!

Having just restarted training myself (see Nike+Ipod entry) I was impressed to find this new company  at the Bridal Show on the weekend – sounds like a fun way to get prepared for one of the biggest days of your life – I especially thought that the ‘couples package’ sounded like a great way to work as a team towards looking fit and fabulous for your wedding.

Be sure to come back each day ths week as we share information on more great vendors we met at the bridal show.

(And haven’t BuffBride&Groom got the coolest logo…. click on it to visit their site)

Snapped!!! My Noisy Neighbours….

I checked out the WeddingGuide bridal show today. It was much busier and bigger than the show last weekend. I met so many great vendors with whom I hope to work with in the future. But more about this later in the week. Be sure to check back, there is lots to report on.

I just wanted to post these pics I took yesterday of my noisy neighbours… I am only joking, I am not really complaining, they really are nice to wake up to, and they are gorgous!

If anyone knows what these birds are called, please leave a comment below for me. Hope everyone else had a great weekend too.

Hello Regan,..you may now be aware of the name of these gorgeous birds, but if not,…they’re referred to as Rainbow Lorikeets. You’ve done a lovely job of capturing these lovely birds in flight, enabling one to see all their stunning coloured markings.
