Love what you do for a living…..

Love what you do for a living and you will never work another day is a quote that has always resonated with me.  Life, I believe is to short to spend 40-60 hours a week doing something you don’t love. I have been “lucky” enough to have always made an income from the areas in my life I am passionate about.

Like everything in life, following your passion is full of highs and lows. I have never actually achieved any of my ultimate goals (maybe I set them too high?) in the endeavours I have pursued to this point in my life. But in the end it does not matter as the experiences I have had in working towards them will be with me forever.

I love photography, the power of an image to bring memories back to life is what drew me to photography. When I find myself in a funk, feeling like I am not making progress towards my life goals, I look through my personal collection of photo albums and remind myself how far I have come, the special people I have met along the way and how much fun it has all been.

I am so lucky that I get to share my passion for photography with so many wonderful unique couples on their wedding day. The only thing better than doing what you love for a living is finding that special person to share your life with who is prepared to stand by you through all the highs and lows.

My philosophy for life is to aim for the moon and even if you miss, you’ll land in the stars. Yo are definitely a shining star Regan, you’ve made an art out of a natural talent!! :)

The Power of Black & White

I love black and white photography.  Your eye is free to focus on the focal point of the image when you take away the distraction of colour. Detail, composition and subject matter all appear to have more impact in a black and white image. The photos below were taken on a bright summers day, yet these three monochrome frames were my favourites of the day.

Flying High (on a Jet Ski)

This weekend on the Gold Coast I came across a freestyle jetski competion being held in the surf on main beach. Thankfully I always have a camera (or 2 lol) handy and I had the time to stop and take these stunning images. These guys were awesome, it really was spectacular to watch.

Chasing Rainbows

Just a super quick post this morning as I am off to Brisbane to pick up my new Drobo. I am paranoid about losing data. My Drobo is going to help me sleep easier, knowing that all my wedding pictures are being continuosly backed up.

I was sitting on the deck yesterday afternoon when a late afternoon rain storm came through, followed by the most amazing rainbow I have seen in a long time.

Have a great weekend everyone and I will catch you all next week.

Wedding & Portrait Photographers International

I wish I was in Vegas this week as 10,000 photographers from around the world converge on Vegas for the WPPI convention.  All my personal favourite wedding photographers whom I look to for inspiration will be in attendance.  It is an incredible opportunity to network, learn and share with fellow professionals. Thankfully it is held every year, fingers crossed I can make it 2010.

The snapshots below were taken with my point and shoot when I was in Vegas for my 30th birthday.  Vegas is an amazing place, definitely worth putting on your bucket list.
